A Bite Of... Morticia Knight

Hi Imogene, thank you for having me at your blog today!

Hollywood Bound, Book One in the Gin & Jazz series was just released, and is available for about a buck right now – yowza! This M/M series is set in the decadent era of the 1920’s when it was all about cool gin and hot jazz. I love that time period - I come from a music and theatre background. The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books, and I love classic film. To say that this book was a labor of love is an understatement. I had to do scads of research, but that was a blast as well. Is there a time period that you love, or have an affinity for?

While you mull that over, I’ve included an excerpt from Hollywood Bound where the older, more streetwise Nick is working late with Jack, his younger buddy, as well as one of the other theatre hands. As they work, Nick contemplates what his never-ending thoughts about Jack might mean.

Jack and Nick seek fortune and adventure in the silent film era of Hollywood. But their newly-expressed love is threatened by the heady allure of fame, gin and easy money.

Nick wiped the sweat off his brow for what felt like the hundredth time. It was after midnight, and they’d been working under the hot stage lights for several hours. They had to get everything just right before they could leave, otherwise their boss Pearson would have a fit and use that as yet another excuse not to give them their past due wages. He was down to his last Chesterfield. They weren’t his favourite brand of cigarette, but at five cents for ten sticks, he couldn’t complain. When they got to Hollywood and were making the big bucks, he would only smoke Luckys from then on.
He checked his pocket. Thirty cents left. They were going to be in real trouble if Pearson didn’t come through the next day. He had to wash his and Jack’s shirts, and he’d have to feed the kid tomorrow. He’d only had coffee and a cheese sandwich all day. Nick still felt guilty about getting the hamburger. That had been another fifteen cents they could have saved, but Jack had insisted.
“You have to do all of the heavy stuff at the theatre. You need to eat something good.”
I could always dip into the Hollywood money. There’s close to fifty dollars in there.
Nick winced. It was so tempting when his belly was grumbling and their clothes smelled like an old hobo in Central Park, but they had to stay strong. Once they got to Hollywood they would be okay. Things would be different.
“Hey, Nicky, whaddya think?” Oscar yelled from the front of the stage. “I think it looks great and that we should get the fuck outta here.”
Nick went around the curtains that were pulled open to the side of the stage and hopped off the front into the orchestra pit. He surveyed the backdrop and the other sliding set pieces that had been arranged for Act One. Jack came down the aisle and stopped next to him.
“I think it’s okay. Whaddya say Nick?”
Nick looked down at Jack’s innocent smiling face. Nick was about a half a foot taller than the blond-haired, blue-eyed kid, and sometimes he felt so protective of him that he thought it would crush his heart. No one should ever be abused the way Jack had been. He was such a sweet guy, and he didn’t even have any family. No one to care for him. No one except Nick.
At times it felt like a burden—like Nick had taken on a responsibility that wasn’t his. But they had always looked out for each other, and it was great not to have to be alone in the city, to have someone he could rely on.
And there was the other thing. At first, Nick had thought it was just sympathy that made him feel so soft about Jack. Like the same way he might feel if a little puppy was lost and left in the cold. He’d want to take it in and feed it and hold it close. But lately he’d been wrestling with the idea that it might be something more than that.
I ain’t no queer. I’m engaged and everything.
He and Penelope had only ever kissed and done a little petting. It hadn’t particularly excited him, so he thought maybe he was just one of those guys who wasn’t that much into sex. Or maybe when he was a little older he’d like it more.
So maybe it’s just that I’m older now and Penelope’s not here, but Jack is. Maybe that’s all it is.
He wasn’t so sure that was it either. Because when he thought about Penelope he had a sinking feeling in his stomach that seemed more like feeling trapped that he had to marry her.

A Bite of... Morticia Knight

“My, my. The doctor is in the house—have mercy.” - Terrence

Thank you Imogene for having me at your blog today, so that I can talk about some hot doctor love – yum! I have a new release at Total-E-Bound – it is Book 3 in the Uniform Encounters series, and this one features an older ER doctor and a younger paramedic. There is lots of naughtiness in this one, because the younger stud belongs to the sex club, Sinsation. Quite experienced in the art of erotic pleasures,  will he able to win the heart of his older, more conservative crush? And will he be able to resist the lure of the young men at Sinsation? But there is more than the promise of sexual thrills that draw the two men together. It turns out they both share a passion for classic films.
In the following excerpt, Terrence, the young paramedic, is taking a chance by making a move on Jackson - the ER doctor - in the hospital cafeteria.

He walked up to the self-serve and poured himself a large cup. He grabbed some creamer and went to sit down. Just as he was about to take a seat in his usual corner, he caught sight of a tall, lean African-American man entering the cafeteria. He was obviously a paramedic, but he held himself with grace, the same way a professional model might. He turned slightly and Jackson’s first impression, before he realised who the stunning man actually was, was that he had a slightly exotic, Taye Diggs look to him. But he recognised him. The flirty guy who’d hit his head.
He’d definitely thought that the young man was attractive then, but he’d had plenty of other things on his mind, none of which had had to do with picking up ER patients. He turned away so he wouldn’t be caught gawking, grabbed a chair at his table and sat down. He kept his head lowered, hoping the model-like man didn’t notice him.
“Dr Reed, right?”
Jackson stared up into the warm brown almond-shaped eyes of his ex-patient. He had to keep reminding himself of that. He’d had enough personal troubles at the hospital to last him a lifetime. There was no point in adding to them with this admittedly delectable specimen.
“Hi. Forgive me, I forgot your name.”
The young man placed a hand across his chest as if he’d been struck to the heart. “I’m devastated, Doctor. But you’ll find I’m very forgiving in so many ways.”
The last sentence ended on a smooth sexy note that seemed to wrap itself around Jackson’s insides. He wasn’t sure how comfortable he was with what was happening. Or what might happen.
“I’m Terrence Samuels. I was the medic who hit my head last week. You tended me. Quite nicely, I might add.”
It was obvious to Jackson that Terrence was interested in more than casual conversation. Although Terrence was just the type of guy he was usually attracted to, the last thing he was looking for was to hook up with anyone. And especially not someone from the hospital after all he’d been through recently.
“Nice to see you, Terrence, hope you’re feeling better.”
Jackson looked back down at his coffee and busied himself by stirring away. He hoped that that would end the whole thing. But Terrence couldn’t take a hint any better than Marla, and slid into the chair across from him. Although, Terrence was definitely a huge improvement over his recently terminated colleague.
“I don’t mean to bother you, Doc, I just wanted to have a chance to talk a little bit, and then I’ll leave you alone.” Terrence seemed to be trying to keep his voice low.
He called me Doc, like Gable in It Happened One Night.
He chuckled a little at the thought.
“What’s so funny, Doc?”
“What you called me just now. ‘Doc’. It reminded me of an old Gable movie. You know, Clark Gable?”
Terrence leant back in his chair, his mouth opened in what looked like complete surprise. “Yeah, I know all right. You mean It Happened One Night.”
Now it was Jackson’s turn to be surprised.
How does this young kid know about that film? I wasn’t sure he would even know who Clark Gable was.
“You know that film? The one from the thirties?”
“Are you kidding me? Gable’s my all-time favourite hot hook-up.”
“Really?” Jackson shook his head and laughed a little more. “I’m honestly stunned. I didn’t think you would be into those types of films.”
“Thought I’d only like gangsta films?” Terrence smirked, a questioning look on his face.
Jackson frowned. “Hardly. It’s just unusual to find younger people interested in classic movies, that’s all.”
Terrence moved closer to Jackson, and said his next words softly and slowly. “Well I’m very interested, Doctor. You have no idea how much. And don’t worry, I’m not that young.”
Jackson swallowed.
Oh crap.
“Maybe we should get together some time and talk Gable, watch some old movies, and do whatever else we might enjoy.”
“Uh…yeah, I don’t think so.”
Terrence looked crestfallen. “Don’t tell me it’s because I’m black.”
“What? No! Actually, I prefer… I mean, it’s just not a good idea.”
Terrence gave Jackson a knowing smirk. “Fascinating.” He smiled, showing off straight white teeth surrounded by a pouty set of kissable lips, decorated with the slightest touch of facial hair that extended down around his face and chin.
Model indeed. GQ, I would say.
“Aah, I was just playin’ with you about the whole black thing. But not the rest. That I was very serious about.”
Jackson was taken in by Terrence’s soft and sexy voice. It was wreaking havoc with his dick, threatening to embarrass him in the cafeteria. As if that hadn’t happened enough already.
Maybe I should stay away from this place.
“So, Doc, whaddya say?”
Jackson still didn’t answer, he felt frozen in place. Everything in his body screamed yes, but his mind kept chastising him and telling him no.

Even though this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone *wink*
