A Bite of... HC Brown

Thanks for joining me today, you write some particularly hot stuff there **fans self**

I'm really looking forward to learning more about you *smiles*

1. What is your main genre, and how did you get started in it?
I write a wide variety of genres, contemporary, historical, sci-fi, paranormal, fantasy, mystery, action adventure, and BDSM.
My first book was published by Pocket Book and called Murder by Design. I entered a competition, won third prize and was offered a contract for the story.
From there, I wrote a medieval historical and that was published in the USA.
2. Okay, what is the most exotic location you have written in?And how did that come about?
I’m an international cat judge, so in different hotel rooms all around the world.  I remember doing edits in the hotel room of a casino one time :-)

3. Have you got a current WIP and can you give us any hints as to what we will find within the book?
I’m writing a Georgian historical romance. The story encompasses three countries, smugglers, highwaymen, and kidnapping so an adventure of sorts too.

4. Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate or something stronger? And why?
Coffee and usually decaffeinated.  I need a clear head to write.
5. What was the hardest scene you have ever written, and why do you think it was difficult? (emotionally for you and/or your character)
This is difficult. The fight in Dragonfae & The Soul Catcher where Lumos the dragon shifter has to fight the Shadow Walkers and very nearly meets his death. At the time, the heroine is in peril and without him she will be sold into slavery. So, a very crucial scene. wow... yes I can see how that would be such an important scene and so essential to have it right.

6. If you had the opportunity to try something in your books, what would it be?

Morph into a dragon :-)

7. If you could invite 3 of your characters to a dinner party, who would you choose and what do you want to learn from them?

Again, I have 40 books and this is difficult, I think I’d chose, Dare, the cat shifter, Nox the King of the Fae and Lumos the dragon shifter. I’d ask Nox to give me the power to morph and ask the other two how to shift :-)

8. What would you do differently on your road to becoming published?

I started with a print publisher, had an agent and became disillusioned. I wasted time trying to write what people wanted rather than what I wanted to write. I now write a wide variety of genres from YA to Erotic under various pen names. I believe that variety is the key to success.

9. You are going on a holiday and can only take 5 things with you. What would you pick and why?

Husband, because I need him.
Money to buy the things I couldn’t take.
Car for transport.
Clothes.....because I look awful in the nude. I'm with you there too!!
Make-up.... to look nice.

10. If you could give a piece of advice to a reader who wants to write a book, what would it be?

Read books that have been published recently. Listening to audiobooks is a great way to learn how to show and not tell. The style publishers require changes frequently. Learn your craft. Joining a group that can help you achieve your aim. Don’t submit a story until it is polished until it shines and lastly, never give up on your dream.

What is you current release?

A Tryst in Time by H.C. Brown

Blurb:
After inheriting a Georgian house in London, Zack Daniels, millionaire art dealer, becomes obsessed with a portrait of the home's former owner, Lord Alexander Swift. One evening, Zack decides to explore the old house and on entering, the once bricked up cellar finds himself hurled back in time to 1775 and comes face to face with the sweet man of his dreams. The attraction is immediate, and they fall quickly into a whirlwind of erotic delights. Nothing runs smoothly for the tall, muscular, tanned American. Out of place in Alexander’s delicate, refined world, he needs to find his way back to the future—and convince Alexander to go with him. Mistaken for a debtor, beaten, and kidnapped, he must escape and return to Alexander before time runs out.

A Tryst in Time, Excerpt:

Zack Daniels lifted his bidder’s card. “Thirty thousand.” “The bid is thirty thousand pounds. Come now, ladies and gentlemen, this portrait of Lord Alexander Swift by Benjamin West is dated 1775 and is in extraordinarily fine condition.” The auctioneer at Sotheby’s surveyed the silent crowd with a critical gaze.
Taking a casual pose, Zack flicked his gaze to the opposing bidder. The man in the slick Italian business suit met his gaze with a slow smile. Zack lifted his chin and stared at the painting. From the moment he had laid eyes on the portrait of the handsome young man in the Sotheby’s catalogue, he had wanted to buy the painting. Lord Alexander Swift’s troubled gaze held a distant loneliness, as if reaching out to Zack across the centuries.
A strange twist of fate had brought him to London in the form of an inheritance on his thirtieth birthday. A distant relative had bequeathed him the townhouse once owned by Lord Swift in Berkeley Square. The will came with explicit instructions on renovation and repair of the old building. Over the past year, he had restored the house to its former glory and now required this painting to complete the task. During the years Lord Swift had owned the property, the painting had hung at the top of the stairs, facing the front door. For some unexplained reason, Zack had a compelling desire to finish the house by restoring the painting to its original position, in time for the anniversary of Alexander’s death on June fourth.
“Forty thousand.” The man in the suit lifted his bidder’s card.
Zack sighed. With his fortune to back him and the prestige of being the owner of some of the most famous galleries around the world, he rarely had people bid against him for very long. They should know better. If Zack Daniels wanted a painting, Zack Daniels would go to any price to secure a purchase. He cleared his throat. “Seventy thousand pounds.” He shot the opposing bidder a cold stare.
After the usual pause, the hammer came down and Zack moved to the clerk to settle the account. “Have it shipped to 42 Berkeley Square, Mayfair.” He turned and strolled back to the painting to gaze at Alexander.
Warmth pooled around Zack’s heart. He touched the man’s pale cheeks, tracing a finger over the long, blond curls, tied back in a queue. The young man appeared to be about eighteen in the portrait, slight of build with delicate features, yet Zack’s research revealed West had completed the portrait on Swift’s twenty-fifth birthday, the day he had inherited great wealth and lands from his father. Zack rubbed his chin. One would think His Lordship should be overjoyed on such an occasion, and yet Alexander’s blue gaze followed him with heart-wrenching sadness.
